What is Carbon Fibre?
Carbon fibre is a thin filament made up of carbon atoms organised into a crystalline structure. Because of its very high stiffness and strength it is widely used in the aerospace and automotive sectors.
How strong is Carbon Fibre?
Carbon fibre has a flexural strength of 470MPa (68ksi) which is 20% higher than the yield strength of 6061 aluminium. Its tensile strength of 700MPa (102ksi) is more than twice the ultimate tensile strength of Aluminium.
